High Purity Ferro Molybdenum 60-75% Mo Content For Making Heat Resistant Steel
The alloy is produced by heating a mixture of molybdenum(VI) oxide MoO3, aluminium, and iron. The oxide and the aluminium combine via an aluminothermic reaction to give molybdenum in situ. The ferromolybdenum can be purified by electron beam melting or used as it is. For alloying with steel the ferromolybdenum is added to molten steel before casting. Among the biggest suppliers of ferromolybdenum in Europe are the English trading house Derek Raphael and Co Ltd and the German trading house Grondmet in Düsseldorf, Germany. A large ferromolybdenum producer in the US is Langeloth Metallurgical Company in Langeloth, Pennsylvania.
To add molybdenum to steel makes steel to have uniform fine-grained structure and improve hardenability of steel to eliminate temper brittleness. Molybdenum can substitute a volume of tungsten in high speed steel.

Ferromolybdenum can be used in any melting process to add molybdenum to all types of iron and steel, and is supplied in a range of sizes for furnace or ladle addition. The recovery should be substantially 100 % if used correctly. For optimum recoveries with ladle additions, ferromolybdenum should be added after the molten metal has covered the bottom of the ladle and before it is three quarters full.
